How do you care your skin in the event of senile xerosis?

Xerosis of the skin is a common condition among the elderly1, known as senile xerosis. It is characterized by dry, scaly skin. These symptoms can be accompanied by cracking and itching2.

How can you prevent senile xerosis and reduce its symptoms and inconvenience?

  • Adapting skin care

    Why?

In order to match their physiological characteristics3 and limit symptoms and discomfort.

    How?

Use specific cleansing products containing skin-nourishing ingredients.

Avoid baths or showers that are too long and/or too hot.

Apply an emollient daily, at least after each bath or shower. It can be applied several times to very dry skin. This will limit the loss of hydrolipidic film. A study has shown the importance of using non-aggressive products for daily hygiene, combined with the application of an emollient based on glycerine, vaseline or urea cream3,4.

  • Additional tips

    Why?

To limit the symptoms of senile xerosis.

    How?

Avoid using skin care products containing alcohol, perfumes or parabens.

    Opt for loose-fitting, non-irritating natural-fiber clothing.

Drink enough fluids throughout the day to ensure adequate hydration of the dermis.

Protect your skin from the sun by applying SPF 50+ sun protection and trying to stay in the shade. Avoid going out between 12 and 4pm, when the sun is at its strongest.
