For the health of sensitive skin

Committed to advancing dermatology and improving the quality of life of those with sensitive skin

We seek to advance knowledge in dermatology and propose solutions to improve the quality of life of people with sensitive skin. We do this alongside academics, health professionals and patient associations. We do it, with them, by pooling our expertise, to develop innovative active ingredients and our products, and by relying on our team at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center. We also do this via training and solidarity efforts. We are convinced that by combining our efforts we will bring more and more relief to the most sensitive skin.

Soothing sensitive skin with dermatologists

In order to provide solutions adapted to sensitive skin, we have developed close relationships and multiple collaborations with dermatologists. For more than 30 years, we have been co-developing effective, safe and well-tolerated treatments with them that complement therapeutic treatments. To go further, we support solidarity efforts such as those of the Euromelanoma association, created by renowned dermatologists, in the field of skin cancer prevention. We also work together on continuing education programs and the development of services for healthcare professionals, with a common goal: to improve the health and quality of life of those with sensitive, intolerant and allergic skin.

Soothing sensitive skin alongside patients

The skin plays a very important role for each of us... It projects the image of who we are, allows us to feel the world around us and protects us from it. We are committed to soothing all skin types with skin care products adapted to each of them and to investing in actions that support each of them. We do this with the expert skin health education team at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center and alongside patient associations or foundations such as the Eczema Foundation and the European Skin Cancer Foundation, by providing them with our expertise or support.

Skin health education workshops

Experiencing a treatment at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center very often involves intertwining gentleness and relief. It also involves finding yourself again. In addition to the treatments, our team offers skin health education workshops to patients and their support systems. The objective is to help them live better with their pathology on a daily basis, to enable them to adopt the best preventive measures to prolong the beneficial effects of the hydrotherapy treatments, to prevent flare-ups and to reduce anxiety and stress. These workshops are also an opportunity to exchange with others who also live with skin problems.

Eau Thermale Avène and the Eczema Foundation

Eau Thermale Avène is a founding member of the Pierre Fabre Laboratories Corporate Foundation entirely dedicated to eczema, the Eczema Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to ease the burden of eczema on patients. It designs and finances therapeutic education projects to improve the knowledge of the disease by patients and their families. It works to bring patients and caregivers closer together to minimize therapy- and doctor-hopping and promote the management of eczema.

… All while respecting nature

Avène Thermal Spring Water is a gift from nature. So, it is essential for us to take care to preserve the environment of Avène-les-bains and to reduce our environmental footprint. This is why our developments and our production are part of a continuous improvement approach. And to go even further, we are initiating a sustainable management plan for the Avène Impluvium with local actors and we have committed ourselves to Pur Projet to participate in the regeneration of marine ecosystems in Indonesia.

Respect de la nature

The preservation of the environment of Avène

Avène Thermal Spring Water emerges naturally from its spring, with a constant composition, temperature and flow. In the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, this precious resource is constantly monitored and its environment protected.

It is this permanent attention which guarantees the purity and the beneficial properties of Avène Thermal Spring Water.

Reducing our environmental footprint, thanks to the rational use of resources

We are particularly attentive to the environmental impact of all our activities. Our rinsed formulas are biodegradable and our packaging is designed to preserve the environment. Finally, we control the energy efficiency of our product manufacturing plant.

Sustainable management of the Avène Impluvium

The Avène Impluvium is the starting point of Avène Thermal Spring Water. By trickling down into this watershed, rainwater is enriched with mineral and biological components beneficial to the skin, before gushing out at the spring's opening.

The richness of the biodiversity that surrounds the Impluvium and the low human activity in the area, form a rare, naturally protective environment. It is our mission to perpetuate its protection to ensure the constant properties of Avène Thermal Spring Water.

Water with benefits for the skin

Avène Thermal Spring Water is used in all of the brand’s care products. It is the unique ingredient used in our Thermal Spring Water Spray and it soothes more than 300 patients at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center every day.

Our connection with local actors

The entire population of the Avène watershed takes care in preserving this exceptional natural resource. Together, we examine joint projects and how best to carry them out to ensure water quality, quantity and accessibility. The goal is to eventually engage collectively with forest and agricultural landowners and local residents.

We have already started to take action on our site, via forest management to encourage the growth of remarkable trees. An agricultural diagnostic has also been launched, in order to support farmers in the continuous improvement of their practices.

Committed to marine ecosystems

Since 2010, Eau Thermale Avène has been committed to making a positive contribution to the issues surrounding the preservation of the oceans. In 2013, the first step was taken: new formulas for suncare products were developed to reduce their impact on marine environments. In 2016, a second step was taken: we partnered with PUR Projet, a company specializing in climate action, born under the impetus of Tristan Lecomte, founder of Alter Eco. Together, we are launching the PUR Corail program, a coral-based marine ecosystem restoration project in Pejarakan, northwest Bali.

Observation: thousand-year-old corals in danger

Poets speak of the liquid plain, the empire of the waves or the bitter waves... Scientists prefer to speak about the world ocean. Or even simply the Ocean, with the capitalization it deserves. The territory, of which most often we only know the coastal limits, makes up two thirds of our planet and represents, at an average depth of 4,000 meters, 99% of the planet’s habitable space.

So, logically, it is home to most of the life for which it is the cradle, and it also regulates most of our climate balance. But this lung of the world is now on the verge of suffocation (warming, pollution, overexploitation of resources...). The first victims are obviously the species that live there, including coral. Spread throughout the world's seas and at all depths (up to seven kilometers below the surface), essential to countless single-celled plants, bacteria and fish, coral are extraordinary organisms that, when left unharmed, enjoy record longevity. Some reefs have existed for several thousands of years. But currently, three quarters are threatened by human activity. It is estimated that over the last three decades, almost 30% of coral reefs have disappeared, at a rate of 1% per year.

Intervene locally: PUR Corail

Faced with this observation, Eau Thermale Avène has joined forces with PUR Projet and its team to launch a project to restore tropical coral, starting with the coral triangle in Indonesia. In northwest Bali, in Pejarakan, the PUR Corail project is coming to life, supported by the work of the Pokmasta local community team, and orchestrated by the PUR Projet team. A few years ago, these sea-floor paradises were in agony, because of the rise in temperatures, fishing with cyanide or dynamite, and the devastating climatic phenomenon El Niño. To repopulate the area with its coral reef and biodiversity, the team has built an artificial reef.

Broadening the approach: a necessity

Very quickly, after the start of the project, it became essential to implement a more global approach. In order to restore life to the environment in a sustainable way, it was also necessary to act on soil erosion linked to land deforestation and plastic pollution. To this end, the community project has expanded to include mangrove planting and improving the environmental practices of local peoples.

Act on soil erosion and plastic pollution

Local community members are working to replant mangroves to control erosion and stem the inward advance of the sea. Mangroves are an ecosystem made up of woody species, such as mangrove trees, that are able to thrive in the tidal range. Mangrove forests stabilize the coastline and protect the environment, especially after hurricanes or tropical storms. In parallel with the reef reconstruction project and the planting of mangroves, and after having been a heavy environmental nuisance for a long time, plastic waste is now being collected and will soon be recycled. Recycling bins have been made available to residents and awareness-raising activities are being carried out to promote recycling practices and emphasize the importance of waste management.
