How do I care for my skin after a tattoo?
A tattoo involves the insertion of pigments and dyes under the skin to create a permanent design. The procedure is similar to a minor medical operation, as it crosses the skin barrier and damages small blood vessels. Even when carried out under optimal hygienic conditions, a tattoo is not without risk. That's why it's essential to adopt a few simple precautions for skin care.
Simple everyday gestures
Gentle cleaning
Why?
To limit the risk of infection.
How?
For the first 24 hours, it's best to leave your tattoo under occlusion and follow the tattooist's instructions.
On day2, the tattoo can be gently cleaned:
1 or 2 times a day, cleanse with a mild cleansing gel, preferably soap-free (non-drying), fragrance-free and suitable for fragile skin.
Work into a lather, then rinse
Pat dry with a clean towel
Apply a moisturizing and repairing treatment
Why?
The skin is weakened by the tattoo, and needs time and a little help to heal. If the healing goes well, the tattoo will be all the more beautiful.
How?
From day3 onwards, until the skin has completely healed (1 month on average), apply a fragrance-free repair treatment to clean, dry skin, morning and night.
Protecting your tattoo from the sun
Why?
To avoid exposing healing skin to the harmful effects of the sun.
How?
Ideally, avoid exposing the tattoo to the sun during the healing phase (1 month on average), by wearing covering clothing or staying in the shade.
If sun exposure is unavoidable, apply a high SPF50+ repairing care product for fragile skin.
It's also advisable to avoid swimming in the pool or sea during the healing period.
Monitoring tattoo evolution
Why?
To detect any signs of infection or allergy.
How?
Watch for signs of infection or allergy, such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, warmth, rash or intense itching.
Consult a physician if these symptoms occur.
