Dexeryl emollient cream, an effective treatment for skin dryness caused by kidney failure

Objective

To evaluate the efficacy of DEXERYL glycerin-paraffin emollient cream on uremic xerosis.

 

Methodology

Randomized, double-blind, intra-individual (left versus right comparison), multicenter clinical study comparing a glycerin/paraffin cream versus placebo in uremic xerosis.

 

Population

99 randomized patients with moderate to severe uremic xerosis.

 

Dosage

2 applications daily.

 

Duration

8 weeks.

 

Primary endpoint

Treatment response (xerosis score) on each leg, as defined by a reduction of at least two grades in five points from baseline in the clinical score on day 7.

 

Secondary endpoints

Patient self-assessment of overall pruritus (visual analog scale: VAS) and quality of life (SF-12 and DLQI scales).
Patient-assessed local tolerance and cosmetic acceptability.
Overall tolerance assessed by investigators

 

Tolerance

Dexeryl emollient cream is well accepted.

 

Conclusion

73% of patients significantly improved the dryness associated with their renal failure.

Regular application of Dexeryl emollient cream twice a day on the body enabled 73% of patients to see their xerosis greatly improved or absent, after 7 days¹. There is a 75% reduction in itching after 2 months of treatment1. 84% of patients are satisfied to very satisfied.
