SAFE- Sun exposure: what are we really doing?

The facts are clear: for over 30 years, prevention campaigns have been conducted nationwide to raise awareness of the dangers of the sun, and yet the incidence of skin cancers continues to rise.

The same messages are repeated.

  • Avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day .

  • Apply sun protection every 2 hours.

  • Protect yourself with clothing, glasses, hats or caps.

The Pierre Fabre Group wanted to study the different ways people behave in the sun, through an initiative called SAFE, launched in 2022 by the Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics and Personal Care department dedicated to patient and consumer relations .

Studies carried out internationally (20 countries, 50,000 respondents) show that 81% of adults and 70% of children were exposed to the sun during the hottest hours, and only 1 child in 5 benefited from reapplication of a sunscreen product every 2 hours.

The SAFE (Sunscreen Assessment Family Experience) program reports poor application of sun prevention recommendations, and raises questions about the measures that need to be put in place to make them more effective and better observed.

Survey results, press releases, publications, posters and videos are available on the SAFE - Mysunwebsite .
