Balance between beneficial microflora and Staphylococcus aureus colonisation: in vivo evaluation in patients with atopic dermatitis during hydrotherapy
Typical symptoms of atopic dermatitis include dry skin, itching, a modified skin barrier and an imbalance of the skin microbiome.
A clinical study was published in 2013 in the European Journal of Dermatology (Impact Factor: 1.944), led by Professor Philippe Lebaron, expert in microbial ecology, biological oceanography, microbiology, marine biotechnologies applied to micro-organisms and general ecology.
This study showed that 18 days of hydrotherapy treatment at the Avène hydrotherapy center reduces the severity of atopic dermatitis by restoring the microbial flora balance on the skin’s surface.
