An Emollient Containing Aquaphilus dolomiae Extract is Effective in the Management of Xerosis and Pruritus: An International, Real-World Study
Dry skin (xerosis) is often accompanied by itching (pruritus). These skin conditions are common in many skin conditions, but also in various systemic diseases (kidney failure, diabetes, etc.). Exposure to irritants and various environmental factors can promote their appearance. Xerosis and pruritus have a significant psychosocial impact and affect quality of life.
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of an emollient containing an extract of Aqua Dolomiae (ADE-G1) on pruritus and xerosis in patients with systemic dermatologic diseases.
The study was conducted in 5910 patients from South America, Asia, Europe and Africa. Subjects applied the product for 7 days to the face and body twice daily.
The study consisted of 2 visits: an inclusion visit and a follow-up visit 7 days later.
The physician measured the severity of xerosis and the patient assessed the severity of pruritus, duration of itching, quality of sleep and impact on quality of life. These assessments were made at both visits using the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis Scale (SCORAD) and questionnaires and indicators such as the DLQI.
Application of the product for 7 days reduces xerosis by 56% and pruritus by 60%, regardless of the subject's pathology.
The average sleep impairment was also reduced by 58% and the quality of life score by 60%.
Good tolerance to the product was demonstrated and the efficacy of the emollient was shown whether the product was used alone or in combination with treatment.
